More and more consumers are searching for delicious organic and biodynamic(r) wines, and are willing to pay a premium for it. A recent survey of Google adwords revealed 20,000 hits per month on Google alone for "organic wine." As more and more people in the U.S. become conscious of the benefits of organic and biodynamic growing practices, it’s a natural leap to look for organic wines to enjoy.
The International Organic & Biodynamic Wine Competition is the only wine competition that focuses on these leading edge wines. Only wines that are 3rd party certified Organic or Biodynamic, or are made with certified organic or transitional grapes, may enter. Four divisions are available so that consumers understand the differences between the classifications and can maximize their wine dollars. Our goal is as much to educate consumers as it is to bring them, the wine loving public, a short list of the most delicious wines available to them.
Our goal is also to help Organic and Biodynamic winemakers sell their wine by creating greater exposure.
Judging Methodology
The Organic and Biodynamic (R) Wine Competition is a true blind tasting, which means that the judges do not know the maker of the wine, they never see the labels, nor do they know the price of the wine.
This makes it possible for our judges to identify outstanding wines across the range of price points and varietals. We also begin each judging session with an initial tasting of brut champagne to clear the judge’s palates to create the best tasting conditions.
Further, our judges receive the results of their panel’s work, ensuring the integrity of the judging.
It’s All About Finding the Most Delicious
Organic and Biodynamic Wines…
The International Organic and Biodynamic Wine Competition is the first and only competition devoted to recognizing and rewarding outstanding Organic wines plus wines made from Biodyvin (France) certified, Demeter certified and other Biodynamic (R) grapes; wines made from Certified Organic grapes, and wines made from Transitional grapes. Transitional applies to those vineyards that are in the certification process to become Organic or Biodynamic (r) vineyards.
The judges for this competition create a consumer roadmap to great organic wines, solving the problem of "which organic wines do I want to buy?" After the competition, consumers will be able to download, free, the Consumer’s Organic & Biodynamic Wine List(tm), which will list all winning wines, their makers, and contact information.
Please turn to the "Rules" page for information on the 2010 divisions of competition and how you may enter.
We welcome your entry and celebrate the explosive and exciting new organic winemaking field, its’ wines, winemakers, winery owners, vineyard managers, and all who strive to meet the challenge of making great wine while protecting our earth.
